365/365 of 2015.

hello lovelies!! ✨✨Great to have all of y'all back and i guess i owe y'all a good explanation about my "MIA" on my weekly routine.

According to my last post, I was supposed to be back with another post on 7th November but on that day, I was scheduled for work last minute due to a shortage of staff at my previous workplace (Manhattan Fish Market) and on 8th November, I have a dental appointment which lasted for 2 hours and I have some school work to catch up on.

Therefore, I was not able to blog for that week!!

Long story short, my month of November and December were all fully packed and I did not have any extra time to blog, sobs I'm sorry!!

I was busy with friends' birthday celebrations, work, TPRAWKS outings (Britrawk outings), family events, #KOHSIN dates, school works and outings with friends!

Please forgive me y'all pls ˚‧º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥᷄⌓˂̣̣̥᷅ )‧º·˚

And very sorry to let y'all know that I will need more time for relationship struggles post. Thus, I decided to blog about something that doesn't require as much reflection and at the same time, to update you guys!

"What will I experience if I go to Poly?" Polytechnic VS Secondary School

Hello hello guys!! ゚・✿ヾ╲(。◕‿◕。)╱✿・゚

I'm back with a new post, after two weeks! Sorry I wasn't able to blog last week as I was caught up with a camp in my school and my O's English papers but anyway, I said I will blog every once or alternate Saturdays. (I still did not break my promise tho)

Yes, as you can see from the title or you've been waiting for this post since my "JC, Poly or ITE?" two weeks back, it is finally here!!!

"What are the differences between Secondary School and Polytechnic?"
"What will I experience differently?"

P/S: I will not talk about all the basic things like polys don't need to wear an uniform, polys have more food choices etc, polys can have all the different hair colours blah and blah because they are unnecessary and i honestly thinks that everyone doing their O's, WILL KNOW.

and also, some background information about the basic things in poly. we have to attend Lectures and Tutorials:
Lectures are basically a lecturer teaching in a huge lecture theatre and the explanations are not very in-depth, the lecturer is shared within the cohort. For example, early childhood studies have a total of 4 classes. during lectures, all 4 classes will combine and only have 1 lecturer to teach. Attendance for lectures are not usually compulsory BUT some f-up lecturers might decide to take attendance some day and count into the class participation marks (10% of your grade).

Tutorials are basically a subject teacher for that particular subject you are taking, in secondary schools. But for poly, we call them tutors and we call the subjects we are taking, modules. Tutorials are compulsory, duh. Just like how you are obliged to attend your lessons everyday in school right? Explanations in tutorials are more in-depth and you can pause the tutors anytime you want as long as you don't understand a part. But remember, don't be late more than 10 mins in a tutorial as attendance WILL ALWAYS be taken in tutorials and count into your participation marks. And for this, 1 class will have 1 tutor. :)

So without further-a-do, lets go take a look with the list that I have come up with!

1) INDEPENDENCE
first of all, i think independence or freedom in learning (whichever way you call it), it is very very evident that it is totally different in poly as compared to secondary school.
- Lesson materials
The tutors or lecturers will NEVER print the lesson notes or materials for you, you have to print it yourself or bring your laptop. And definitely, the tutors will not go through every single detail in the lesson notes in class because you are supposed to go through it at home, then go to class and ask her if you have any doubt. So to be honest, no one is really there to make sure that you're on track for your studies, not even your tutors.
- Correction
The tutors or lecturers will NOT collect your worksheets and mark them, unless they are tests (duh). Instead, they will go through it together with the class so no one is going to really care if you master the topic or still totally have no clue about the topic.
- SDL (Self-directed learning)
SDL is common in polys, it is the term to call the period of time where you are learning at home, in temasek poly (not sure if it is the same term for other polys). This is to read up lesson notes and plans at home then if there is a quiz, do it at home to see if you've read your lesson.
- Consultation or extra lessons
Definitely, there will not be any extra lessons or remedial lessons before your examination, arranged by the teachers. But instead, you have to be the one doing it! If your class have questions then ask your teacher to book a room during your class's free time if not you have to look for your teachers yourself after asking what time she will be free during the day.

2) IRREGULAR TIMETABLE
The lesson schedule or timetable in a day, in poly will not be as packed as it was in secondary schools. There will be days where you will have 4 to 5 hours break in between 2 lessons or days where you will have only 1 hour of break in between long study hours.
- Cancellation of lessons
If there are any cancellations of lessons, the tutors will inform the chairperson in your class then she or he will be responsible in passing the message down! But you will never know how last minute they will tell you, it can be a day before, 2 days before or 3 hours before the class starts. But for lectures, they will inform you through emails! And during the time period, you can do whatever you want and go wherever you want. Unlike in secondary schools, there won't be any cancellation of lessons (HAHA).
- Deadlines of assignments
Unlike in secondary schools, poly will not give assignment thats due the next day or next week, it will be usually due after 4 to 7 weeks so you have to manage your time really well! And there will be this week in a semester when almost all the assignments given at the start of a new semester be due together in the week.

3) GROUP WORK
As I have mentioned in the previous post, poly definitely focus more on teamwork than individual works. So only choose to come to poly if you can work well in groups if not you will definitely be the person that nobody wants to group with (truth hurts but oh well). In poly, the group work must be evenly distributed but actually, if the person did not contribute to the group work, the teachers will not do anything about it.. BUT you can choose to pull the person down during peer evaluation of group work.
Peer evaluation is when everybody in the group rates each other's performance and contribution. Definitely the time to pull someone down if you felt that they have done nothing to the group work.

Lost. After O levels, where do I go now? JC? Poly? ITE?

Hello people, its been a while, yes it has, since my last update. I'm so sorry for being away and neglecting this little space for such a long time! I promise I did not do it on purpose, I was so so damn caught up with my personal, work and carousell stuff. Like even now, I'm writing this post at 3AM while I need to be awake at 10AM.

!!!!! GOOD NEWS!!!! I decided to abide one of my askfm anon's suggestions to blog once every 1 or 2 weeks depending on my schedule, I'll most probably have a new post every or alternate Saturdays. (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ can y'all pls applause for my effort!!!

Okay lets get into today's topic!

So I received A LOT of askfm questions regarding like how to choose between JC and Poly or similar questions, y'all seem LOST and unmotivated. so i decided to help you guys out with some little thoughts I've in mind or i know about the topic!

1) An Aim/A Dream
Without an aim or a dream about what you inspire to be in the future or what do you want to work as, without a clear set of determined mind of knowing WHERE YOU WANT TO GO AND SEE YOURSELF IN IN THE NEXT 20 YEARS, you will always be lost.

You will always be unmotivated for your O's and definitely, you will be very very very LAZY to study.

Can't seem to find a more significant word or a better word to describe how important it is to have a goal.

2) Know what your interest is and what do you love to do
Of course, it will be great to know exactly what do you want to do. For example, in my aspect, I want to be a child psychologist, the ones who work in a clinic and are able to prescribe medication to help people. However, you have to give yourself some space and provide yourself with some alternatives. Because in life, you don't always get what you want. So it will be better to have options.
For example, I love to help people out, I want to know what are others thinking about. So I will focus on the HUMANITIES in people.
Hence, you will have to go online and research a little about the courses provided in the Polytechnics and ITE (i'll explain JC part later) regarding about your interest which in my case, it will be humanities.

click THIS to see the courses of your interest provided in the 5 polytechnics.

so I went to the link and see the courses available in the 5 polytechnics of my interest:
from there, slowly eliminate the courses which YOU DO NOT WANT and write down on a piece of paper what are the courses that are left for you to rank your choices. TRY NOT TO HAVE A LOT OF COURSES LEFT because you will not want to pick out a champion from a lot of choices right? You will be blurred out from the amount of choices and your mindset will not be as determined as compared to when you only have 5 choices. So do consider to my suggestion, have only 5 choices remaining for you to rank.

Then from there, go and research about the minimum entry criteria and the cut off points for your 5 choices and make sure your prelim marks are better than it!

TIP 1: For example, if the cut off point is 17, make sure that your target for O levels L1R4 is 12 ~ 15. Don't hit exactly on the dot, someone might has a better L1R4 than you!!

TIP 2: This is where your CCA comes in!! For example, the cut off point is 17. Student A scored 17 points with a A1 to B3 CCA point as compared to Student B who scored 16 points with a D7 CCA point. I can be very certain to tell you, the authority will choose the one with 17 points! Because with a good CCA point, it makes their testimonies better.

3) Know where do you want to go
As you may know, there are 21 Junior Colleges (JCs) excluding 1 of them (Millenia Institute) who offers a 3 year course instead of the regular 2, 5 Polytechnics and 3 ITEs in Singapore.

I'm in a polytechnic so my knowledge of how things work in there, are much more than the other two alternatives but I still know a little some some ok!!! (P/S: some some is not a typo, its a slang of mine, for a very little amount of knowledge)

Lets start with JC!

I said to explain the JC part earlier on above because from what I know, JC does NOT offer a specific course. However, it is more of school-based programmes.
For example, Temasek JC and Victoria JC offer Humanities-based programmes which from my hypothesis; their electives provided in the school are towards that area. BUT they are not solely based on that programme.
Most of the JCs have at least 1 programme which includes Music, Theatres and Drama, Humanities, Art and so on! so it really depends on your own interest and then again, their cut off point is different!

I will say that JC is more suitable for people who love to read and understand and memorise stuff. JC is a hell lot of stress because everything is done by you, yourself and not with any group works. Whatever is done by you, is your grade. It is just like secondary school, in my opinion, but with more stress and more individual project.

My teacher once told me that JC life is like x10 of O levels and you really need to study everyday if not you will miss out. However, if you want to go to an university, this is the way that has more guarantees and the choice with the least risk. And of course, JC is filled with their own personal fun as well!

Moving onto ITE,

I know the least about this path because lets be honest, no one really wants to aim to go that path, like a normal person will never choose to go O levels and then wants to go to ITE right? No offence but really.

ITE is definitely not the end of your life, I have friends who went through the ITE path but now are in polytechnics. So please do not give up hope!!

My perspective of ITE: A lot of hands-on project and group work, it prepares you to head on to another path in life, like Polytechnic or working path. It teaches you a lot of life skills, definitely and quite an amount of self-independence skills because there are a lot of presentations and projects from what I know!

To those who want to go to ITE just because they thought they will have a better life in ITE then I'm sorry, you're very wrong because with the advance in the education system, the ITE Year 1 life is even worse than Polytechnic Year 1 (from what I heard), there are a lot of works to be done and stuff.

Lastly, Polytechnic!
For polytechnic, a lot of self-independence skills are very much needed because unlike secondary schools, the teachers won't remind you about the tests and stuff. So you will need to keep track of your own work and of course, everything you do in Polytechnics is about GPA.

A normal test is counted in your GPA, participating in class (answering questions, doing research, even attending classes) is counted and a whole lot of junk is counted in the GPA so if you are planning to come to polytechnics, you have to be mentally prepared!!

Because if you don't score well in the 1st test, it is really very hard to pull up the scores during the 2nd or 3rd test. And once your GPA goes down, it is hard to pull it up!

But then again, it is the path with the most freedom given (coloured hair, home clothing and stuff)!

Oh i forget to mention the most important part, the amount of group work is really crazy!!!!! Be wise in choosing your group mates please, your closest friend may not be the best group mate to have for you!

MOST OF THE THINGS YOU DO IN POLY HAVE TO BE IN A GROUP. So if you are the type of people who can't work well in groups, then poly might not be the one for you.

------------
Summary:

JC: Individual work + a lot of studying & memorising.
Poly: Teamwork skills.
ITE: Hands-on projects.

Choose for yourself, which is the best path for you? Can you sit down and study for literally 7 hours non-stop? Can you work well with your groups and be a good team leader? Or will you be able to learn the best when you are experiencing it?

Choose for yourself!!

That is all for today's post, hope I have answered all your questions and please leave me an askfm question if you have any further questions to be answered! I'm sorry that my knowledge for JC and ITE are really very limited as most of my friends went the same path as I did.

Loving yourself

Hello earthlings. ☻ Yas I'm finally back with a new post! I know i know i know, I have been blogging really less this year due to my packed school-work-private life.

I am so caught up with everything and i think when this post is up to view, I'll be taking my english oral (on 27th) or I have already taken it. But either way, I hope y'all will enjoy this little thought i have in mine, and  yes it is inspired by some plus size models living in other countries!

"I used to care about what others think of me, until I tried to pay my bills with their opinions."

Loving yourself is something that is so hard to do yet easy to be said, especially when the idea of having a perfect figure is further reinforced by our size zero society. Even people who are skinny enough to wear UK 6 tops and bottoms are yearning for a skinnier self, especially when the idea of having thigh gap pops out of nowhere and has became a common checklist for most to judge if that someone is petite in size.

I know there's a lot of things that have been put together and act as a whole bunch of insecurities people have about themselves, be it height, weight and appearance. I may come off as a person who is really confident about myself in the way that I portray myself in social medias or even in real life but trust me, I have insecurities too and over the years, I just learn to not let them bother me because once you let it bothers you, you are NEVER going to fully get over it.

And the question is how? how do I become more confident of myself? how do I not care about what others say?

It is when I realise what my flaws are, what am I not capable of and things like that. I know it sounds ridiculous because most of the people you have come across with, will tell you to let yourself know things that you're capable of and things that you're proud about yourself but for me, its another way round.

Because you got to know what your flaws are before finding a perfect solution to fix it up. To me, there is absolutely no use of letting yourself know what you are capable of and whatsoever because do you really think that knowing your capabilities will help you with your confidence level and not let what creeps you out late at night (insecurities) to come and pull you down?

My answer is no. No matter how many things you are capable of doing or how many things you have that you're proud of, you can never hide the fact that behind all of those recognition you have for yourself, you are just a normal human being with insecurities. Even the finest people out there, will have things that they don't like about themselves. So you will, too.

When i was 11 or 12, in primary school, I used to hate my appearance a lot. I was like a giant to many and by 'giant', I meant plus size. It was difficult for me to change my eating habits as since young, I have not been taught about moderation eating and healthy eating all that shit. Nobody told me to give 2 shits about that when I was young. (I am still eating unhealthily now but blah whatever)
Till one day (I think was after my psle), I decided to sit down, thought about all my insecurities thoroughly and wrote it down on a piece of paper or two then I thought about all the practical solutions for it (e.g. having a face full of blemishes, ok then i will spend more money on my facial products or to visit a dermatologist)
So a way to love yourself more, in my opinion, is to fix whats bothering you.

And yes, I do know that some of the people who are insecure, tend to pity themselves? does that sounds sane to you? because most of the people i know, tend to feel sorry for themselves like even before someone else puts them down with their insecurities, they are already putting themselves down.
and my question is why? why are you putting yourself down before someone else does that to you? so that it will be less hurt because you've already "mental prepared" yourself? thats bullshit. what makes you think you are not good enough? what does your body do to you to make you not love yourself? remember no matter how perfect you want yourself to be, there is ALWAYS going to be someone that is better than you, better complexion than your face, better body figure than yours and all that kind of shit but also remember there will always have people who are below you as well. When you think you are not good enough, remember that you are not the worst and be blessed by that. By this, i don't mean in a way to put down or mock anyone.

"You are yourself. Don't compare because you can never be that someone and out there, there might be someone who wishes to be YOU."

Yes I know that sounds corny and cheesy because you have probably heard that a million times but trust me, its true.

I know this is a really really long post and you might already get bored of reading it even before I end this post. I just feel that everyone will be happy about themselves, they will be satisfied one day. They just have to work towards to being satisfied about it because if they or you were to continue sitting down and bashing yourself, putting yourself down with all the negativity, things will NEVER work out, things will NEVER change.

Last but not least, a note to yourself the next time you deal with criticisms, especially towards plus size body shaming.

"Dear critics: Making fun of my body will never make you a better person. It will never fix the void you feel within yourself, & the issues you have when you look in the mirror. The real issue isn't that I'm fat, or my size, it's that you are scared of seeing someone that is happy AND fat. I don't need to be "fixed" because I'm not the broken one. History has proven that hate is never the answer.. Close your mouth & open your heart." - TessHollidays ☻

Hence, always remember to love yourself because if you don't, then who will?

Till then, x.

Vlog #1: A day out with me (24/07/15)

Hello hello, yas I'm back. I promise I'll be back real soon and I did come back soon after, didn't i? Today's post will be something really different, something that is requested quite often at my ask.fm forum!

That is........ A VLOG. P/S I will post it on my blog because I don't think i want to start a youtube channel, i'm not ready for that and i don't think I'm up for it so yeah...

Yes yes, I know I've said I won't do it because my life is real boring and I don't know how many of you are interested in looking at today's video which will be muted and most of the clips are just my boy & me walking around serangoon. LOL

But nonetheless, I will still write about what did I do and what has happened today!

So here it goes...

The video will be below and the post will comes after it.

Sorry that you have to click the link above,
it will brings you to Photobucket and you can view it there!
(P/S: this video ends at around 3:20,
so there will be 30 seconds of the song playying at the back)
Sorry for the poor editing skills or whatsoever

So... I wanted to fetch my boyfriend from his school when he ended school at 1pm but.. I woke up at 1pm :(

And we decided not to watch "Burying the Ex" which was our initial plan as we don't think we can make it for the 2:30pm show so we decided to head over to the cinema and decide later.

I finished preparing at 2pm and I headed over to board 116 and met my boyfriend on the bus!

And as you can see from the video, we bought tickets for The Vatican Tapes (which I think the show was damn good) and I bought sogurt before heading into the show!

(I did not vlog this part down) Blur enough, we didn't realise that the time was 3pm already and our show was at 3, so being very sotong of us, we walked out of NEX after buying sogurt and wanted to go and eat our brunch at a coffeeshop. Halfway, my boyfriend asked about the timing and that's when we realised we were late for the movie. So we rushed back to the cinema. SO that explains why when the video was at 3:05pm, we were actually taking the escalator up to 4th floor.

And the rest were pretty clear shown in the video!

I went to Central MacDonald and bought a drink to take home so yeap....

Oh! and today we reach home pretty early (at 6pm) because I was expecting a deliveryman at my house, didn't want to miss the delivery time if not I will have to go to MacPherson so I went home early!

I think that's all. Pretty boring I know.

Let me know what you think in my ask.fm (www.ask.fm/heyitsminmin) !

my DPA Journey

aloha aloha! I'm finally back with the post that many of you have requested! my DPA journey, i dpa-ed to temasek polytechnic so I'm not very sure if the process of how TP deals with DPA is the same as other polys but the process (interviews for DPA etc) is definitely the same. so lets get started!

WHAT, WHEN, WHO, HOW?

Direct Polytechnic Admission (DPA) allows students who are taking O levels that year, to be enrolled and confirmed a place in their desired Polys/JCs, even before their O level results are released!
Sounds good? yes, definitely! Anyone who is taking O levels can apply for it, no harm trying so just apply haha!

The application period really varies so you have to check it for yourself in the MOE website (http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/dpa/) but for last year, it started in mid June so fret not,  I don't think it will start till it's June this year as well.

You will have to apply for it through the website, you will need to write 800 characters write up for every choices you have applied for, there will be a total of 3 choices for you to choose and nope, it does not have to be in the same polys and JCs. It will definitely help you if you have participated in activities related to your selected course, add it in in the write-up! In the write up, it's definitely like selling yourself and letting the parties to know how interested are you in the course and WHY are you interested in it. It all depends on how good you can sell yourself by words, you can ask your English teacher for help. *wink (but I did not)
For example, for mine, I applied for:
1st choice: Early childhood studies in Temasek Polytechnic.
2nd choice: Psychology studies in Temasek Polytechnic.
3rd choice: Early childhood education in Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

After that, you will have to wait, probably a month? You may receive phone calls from your respective Poly or JC whichever you have applied for, to inform you that you are being selected to have an interview. And yes, you can choose to attend more than one interviews if you get selected by one or more of your desired courses. During the interview, you will have to bring along your school result, testimonial and any certificates that will benefit your interview.

TIP FOR INTERVIEW: My interview was after school hours so I just wore my school uniform there. Need not dress up for it. Here's the tip: be as down to earth and honest as possible in the interview. Trust me. I have friends who told the interviewer that they can help TP to get this award and that award but they are not being selected. Whereas me? I told the interviewer "I cannot guarantee that I will get any awards for TP but I will try my best to."

Stupid me, i have no idea i can accept both. I got a phone call from Psychology in TP at first so i thought that early childhood studies rejected me, so i accepted the interview and after that, early childhood studies's in-charge called me for an interview so i called back psychology's to tell them i want to reject the interview. pfft.

And you think that's all? Definitely NOT. You will need to wait for more days or weeks to let them tell you that your DPA application is officially approved.

For example, 1000 participants signed up for DPA, 100 of them got interviewed but only 50 of them will be approved.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ARE APPROVED/REJECTED?

If you are approved, you will have to make sure that your O levels get the L1R4 raw points of 26 points and below, including English, 2 relevant subjects of your course and 2 other best subjects in your result slip. Not only below 26 points, you will have to meet the Minimum Entry Requirements for the course you are approved in. If you have failed to meet any one of the two requirements, you are automatically rejected and your place in the course will be lost.

If you are rejected, according to what I have heard from others, you can actually appeal during the appeal period with the help of your testimonials from your teachers and recommendation letter from the principal.

NOTE: Once you accepted the course offered by the respective poly through confirmation, you are NOT allowed to change courses unless you failed to meet the requirements. If not, you do not need to participate in the Joint Admission Exercise (JAE).

POLYTECHNIC PREPARATORY PROGRAMME (PPP)

So after you receive your O level results blabla, you scored well and met the requirements, you will receive this thick junk of package from your respective poly. This package will tell you more about the Polytechnic Preparatory Programme (PPP).

PPP is a compulsory programme for all DPA students which will required you to go to school 8 weeks earlier than the April Intake (pfft, i know but wait for it). Definitely, you have to pay for it, haha, for TP, it's $150 for mine.

TEMASEK POLYTECHNIC'S PPP 2015

As I was enrolled in TP, I think I am only suitable to speak up for the PPP in TP instead of all polys because I am not familiar with the rest.

So for mine, the PPP started in 9th February 2015. The first day basically is just introduction to the school, the DPA programme, the PPP programme and definitely, the ice-breakers game as we are divided into groups. For mine, we started off with the smallest number of people in the group but the most number of GLs (the leaders/seniors in TP to lead the group).

So basically in TP, you will need 3 Cross Disciplinary Subjects (CDS) upon your graduation. In PPP, in 2 months time, the DPA students have to complete 2 CDS and thats totally absurd to us upon hearing it. Others take 3 years to complete 3 but for DPA students, hell no, we need to complete 2 CDS in 2 months. wtf but of course, the after sweetness will be telling to your April Intake friends "where got time CDS?"

The CDS is basically a module for you to take part, it is what determines your GPA, other than attendance and those basic stuff. And if the CDS result is released and you are unhappy with it, any one can retake the different CDS or the same CDS.

For my group, we choose the CDS of Japanese Language and Culture & the compulsory CDS for all DPA students is TransnNational Studies (TNS).

But wait, actually no, I did not choose Japanese L&C, I chose another choice which is Business Management & Entrepreneurship but they gave me my 2nd choice which is Japanese L&C but it was okay, I embraced it.

In CDS, we will have to attend Lectures & Tutorials which will be held at different places.

TNS JOURNEY

The TNS journey gave me the most traumatising memory so far in my life, I guess. First of all, I have learnt that TNS lecturers are so strict with the timing of lessons, to be honest, every lecturers in TP.

For example, there is this day when I was late for lesson, for freaking 2 minutes and BAM, the lecturer shouted at me and warned me to get out of the lesson if there is next time. And I'm there like "lmao chill your tits brah." pffft.

Anyway, we have had lectures at 9am in the morning so I have to wake up at 6:30AM because it takes around 1 hour ~ 1 hour 15 minutes for me to get to TP. Not to mention, the always-packed 72. Moving on, in TNS, we learnt about the different etiquettes and cultures in different country. For example, we get to understand people from different cultures more with the 7 types/dimensions we learnt.

For example, one of the dimensions are Neutral and Affective, the way they show their emotions. For example, Italians are affective and Singaporeans are neutral. Affective means that they show their emotions out loud via verbal and physical actions. Neutral means that even if we are not happy, we keep it within ourselves. So when an Italian come over to work in Singapore, he will be hurt and confused by how Singaporeans express themselves as they are not used to show it out. Hurt in the sense where Italians hug upon greeting but for Singaporeans, we wave or greet. So there will be a time where Italian wants to hug Singaporeans but we back off.

I'm sorry if that overwhelmed you but that's what this CDS is about. Just that we learnt 7 types. You will be interested in this course if you are planning to want to understand people from different countries or so.

In addition, in TNS, we have had a 2 weeks residential stay in TP's Glocal Connect Village (GCV). Yes, an apartment with kitchen, living room and bedrooms! So how it works is that 5 people of the same gender will get to live in an apartment, we are required to stay overnight there for 2 weeks except for the weekends. Meals and all those necessities, we are supposed to take care of that! Other than that, we will also have to return back to our apartment and not leave the gate after 10:30PM.

Why is this traumatising? Our crazily hectic schedules in the residential stay. Yes.
This is what MY GROUP SCHEDULE was:
9 to 10AM: TNS Lecture
10 to 12PM: TNS Tutorial
1.45 to 3PM: Japanese Lecture
3 to 5PM: Japanese Tutorial

It isn't that bad as you thought, right? But wait. Let me analyse it for you.

PS: This crazily hectic schedule, is just for my group. Lol we pathetic.

Ever since the first day of TNS and Japanese, we have had homework. The homework includes doing research and everything for 2 presentations in another 2 weeks time, reversing your work because of the tests thats happening in 2 weeks time and at the same time, writing 3 800 word essays in 4 weeks.

Analysing:
background information - GCV is like at another end of TP, it takes 10 minutes to get to the main gate of TP, no joke. Our lectures are held at the classrooms which are like 2 minutes walk to the main gate and our tutorials are held at GCV classrooms...

We have a break from 12 to 1.45pm. After TNS tutorial, we will head back to apartment which is next to the GCV classrooms to put our things. Then make our way to get our lunch. After that, we have to walk all the way back to GCV to get our things then walk all the way back to the lecture room.

The next break we have is after 5pm.
Analyse again:
5 ~ 5.20PM: Back to our apartment to rest for a while.
5.20 ~ 6PM: Bathe
6 ~ 7PM: need to do homework right.
7 ~ 8PM: Cook and eat our dinner
8 ~ 10:30PM: we need to meet the guys from the opposite block to discuss for our Japanese presentation in 1 week time.
After 10:30PM: we have to start researching for our TNS presentation and trust me, it is definitely not easy. My entire group said none of them get more than 6 hours of sleep a day and it is impossible. The longest time my apartment group get to sleep is 4 hours. There is once we slept at 6AM while we have a presentation consultation at 8AM.

Okay, enough of my rumbling. Good luck to those who want to take up in this CDS, the good thing about this is that you really really get to bond a lot with your apartment mates. And after this, you will miss the stay with your friends and the memories.

JAPANESE L&C JOURNEY
In this CDS (most of my seniors said it was easy and definitely, it is way easier than TNS), you will get to learn the geography and culture of Japan, for example, what is their etiquettes, how many islands do Japan have and which part of Japan is famous for different things and so on. Those are what we learnt in lectures.

In tutorials, we will get to learn to speak and understand Japanese. We will have this language book which there are all the dialogues a Japanese can have with someone they are not very close with, and we will need to memorise and understand how to speak and listen to Japanese for the upcoming tests.

There are 2 tests: 1) Paper test which will have culture and geography questions and definitely, what is "something" in Japanese or maybe they will give a Japanese word and expect you to know. 2) Listening test. So basically all of the content is this listening audio will be in Japanese and we will have to understand and choose our answers which is in English. Thank God they are all MCQs. After these two, we have our presentation which is acting and speaking in Japanese.
SCHOOL DISCOVERY PROGRAMME (SDP)
I am in the school of Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) so I will not be able to speak up for the rest!
Basically in HSS, we travel around in our SDP, we tend to go field trips to hospitals and etc.

There is this activity that I really love in SDP, which is the psychology activities. It is a whole bunch of activities we have to do in TP and to video down the public's reactions.
For example, falling down and dropping a stack of paper.

So at the end of the day, the reaction and conclusion my group has made is that there is no humanity in TP. :')

I acted to fall down in front of a whole group of seniors but only 2 ~ 3 of them reacted after 5 minutes. My friend dropped a stack of paper and it flew around in front of a group of girls and none of them bothers.

However, we will have to discuss it with our fellow HSS classmates. And the conclusion is that some are afraid of troubles and some wanted to help but they dare not approach.

One of my friend from another group in HSS was super cool, she acted to faint in the TP bus stop in front of a lot of people and unfortunately none helped. so she tried again after getting up and then fainting again, this time only one aunty attempted to help her up.

END OF PPP
After that, it will marks the end of PPP and the DPA programme! but to be very honest, I'm not done with it yet as we are left with the closing ceremony and the interaction day with seniors that are postponed due to be mourning of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Other than that, we are done!

Do follow me on instagram and twitter @minhuikoh for more updates about the closing ceremony and interaction day and i don't think i will waiting for both to end! And if you have any more questions for me to answer about the DPA journey, do ask me @ www.ask.fm/heyitsminmin!

Edited: Both closing ceremony and interaction day has passed but I won't update you guys about it, to hold some suspense!

And as always, thank you for reading!

p/s: this post was done weeks ago, before 6th April but Im only uploading it now because I am very busy recently with my great-grandmother's funeral, FOW & HSS FO. so yep!

How I studied for O level

Dia duit (Hello in Irish) humans! I am finally back with a new post, I mean like yeah it kind of took a very long time but hey, this time round i actually got a valid reason! School actually started on February for me because I DPA-ed into TP so yeah, need to go 2 months earlier than everyone, kind of sucks but dealing with it. My next post will be my DPA journey, as requested so stay tune!

So starting with the topic, it was not a wise decision to ask me to talk about O levels but as y'all know have probably know that I did not score very well, at least not what I expected. So some of my tips do not work for you, you will have to find your very own best method of studying!!

TIP 1: DON'T CHIONG.
So I was told that when you do O level, your work must be very consistent and you must always start early, it's not like N level (for those who have gone through that like I did). It is definitely not something you can start last minute and score very well.
So what I did was I started chionging in February to around June and yes, i was very consistent in my work, my attendance was 100% and I started my Ten year series and everything, to realise that I WAS WRONG.

yes of course, you should always start early but in the sense that you should only do your homework and consistently revise your work. definitely NOT CHIONGING. Why?

Because you will get tired by the time O level comes. Trust me, I have been there and done that. I refused to listen and my results prove me wrong, and I regret it. I will always remember what my principal told me (surprising, but yes, its the fact that i remember ok). He said "Preparing for O level is like being a pilot. When the plane first starts to prepare to take off, it doesn't take off with a full speed, it takes off at a constant speed so by the time it lands, there is still energy left in the plane."

I have done a lot of practices and definitely spent a huge amount of my secondary 5 life studying lifelessly for O level but I was wrong, very very wrong, I shouldn't started so early so I could at least study when O level comes. My grades started degrading and it was not pleasant, I no longer have the mindset to study for prelim 2 and definitely, O level. When its left with 1 week to O level, I am NOT studying, I only started "reading" through my notes when the subject is tested the next day. this is how much 'starting early' mindset got me into. So no, definitely don't chiong early. I would suggest chionging in June or so. Only revise your work and do your homework consistently in January ~ May, don't chiong. But of course, if you are weaker in a lot of earlier topics then you should brush up on them.

TIP 2: ASK QUESTIONS IN CLASS.
So I was the type of student where I need to clarify ASAP when I do not understand if not I will just leave it as it is. When you ask questions, you are actually clearing your doubts and also, helping your classmates or those who dare not to ask, be clear about the doubt. "It is good to be a fool for a few minutes than a fool for life," don't be afraid to ask because you think that your questions are dumb or stupid. The fact is you will not be the only one who is confused about the stupid questions. So ask. you may seem to be a fool, but that will last for a few minutes, it is better than to not ask and be a fool for life!

TIP 3: MAKE YOUR OWN NOTES
Scientific research has shown that over 80% of the scholars score well because of their devotion to the time they used to make notes. Yes, it will be tiring and stupid to make notes when you are already given notes by your lecturers or teachers. But think about it, when you are making notes, you are actually READING and THINKING about the content in the notes, it is also REVISING your work.

TIP 4: FRIENDS OR ALONE? MUSIC OR NAH?
Firstly, you have to find out if you are the type to study with friends or alone. You can find out by observing yourself when you are out studying with friends. Do you use your phone a lot or talk to your friends most of the time? If so, you should try studying alone. For me, I study the best when I am alone. I will coop myself up in my study room, and I will just study. I would mute my phone as well because y'all know, phone is a major distraction!

Secondly, you also have to find out if you are the type to study with music playing in the background or not. I have many friends and teachers who told me not to study with music because the music will end up in your mind instead of the work and also, chances of you singing along with the music are also very high! For me, I study with music most of the time but nope, i don't sing along with it unless I got very bored. When I am memorising my work, I don't play music because it is disturbing my mind from memorising. BUT IT REALLY DEPENDS SO YA.

TIP 5: STUDY BREAK/POWER TIME
For this tip, it really depends because I have know friends who study the best when they don't take breaks. This is because when they take breaks, their mind will shut down for that day. For example, they give themselves a 5 minutes break so by the time 5 minutes end, their mind couldn't adjust back to study so they ended up giving themselves more and more time for break. P/S I belong to this category.

Another category will be taking a break. this is to relax their mind so that they are not stress or tense. During the break, it will be good to just stay away from books-related stuff. When they are studying, it should be 100% without distraction, just you yourself and the book for around an hour then give yourself maybe 20 minutes break.

MOST IMPORTANT TIP: HAVE GOAL, BE ORGANISED, STAY TO IT.
This tip is very very important! It is important to have a goal, really! Goals will help you to be motivated and stay focus. for me, I like to set individual goals for myself, for example, English I must get B3 and Math A2 or so. I once attend this study talk in my school, they said GOALS should be SMART.
Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time-based.
Being specific means that what goals are you setting for yourself? What subjects? How are you going to achieve the goal?
Being measurable, achievable and realistic means that the goal is ought to be within reach, for example, don't expected yourself to jump from F9 to a A1 unless you are willing to spend 70% of time doing that subject. Set goals to be something you can foresee yourself getting to the target.
Time-based means you should give yourself a time to reach the goal, for example, by Prelim 2, I want to get a B3 for my English.

-------------

So yep, that's it for my post today. Good luck for those who are doing their O levels this year!
Including myself. x_x
P/S: don't bother asking my aggregate, i won't disclose it on social media. If you want to know, then ask me personally or dm me on twitter.

And as always, thank you for reading!

CNY OOTDs & Boyfriend Tag(?)

Hello humans! I am finally back here again, typing in this little spot of mine which probably not many will notice or bother to read i guess AHAHA.

The past few weeks were DA BOMB man, I was so freaking busy to the extend where I did not even have the time to watch television programme (118) for this entire week (yes, I'm currently catching up to where the tv stops).

I was so busy because I am busy cleaning my room and looking for nice and pretty clothes for CNY, the time where I become rich again. Not very rich but just wealthier than what I have before CNY.

my CNY ootds are requested around 2-4 times? and there's one anon who even requested for me to start asking you guys ideas for blogpost through askfm again via the #blogpostideas. so I guess I will start this 'event' again?

So let's get into it! :)))))

Above is what I wore for reunion dinner at my step-grandmother's house at Yishun!
Just a white puffed up short sleeve top with pearls around the arm's area, got this top at Bangkok for around 5SGD!
I was wearing an origami black skort for the bottoms as I want it to look sort of 'casual'??
You can see the star stud and the white pearls on the second picture, that's what I meant!
I got the necklace from Benjamin (my boyfriend) for valentine's, if you are wondering. So I wouldn't know how much it is, all I know was it was from Swarovski :D

Moving on ~
CNY DAY 1
Yes that is me. Nah just kidding, I forgot to take an ootd for this outfit. Doesn't this outfit makes me look so casual yet seems like I have spent tons of time on it?! However, this material is quite sheer so I have to wear a tube inside as well!
If you are wondering, I pair this up with a pair of black wedges and the necklace again!

Got this at Carousell if I'm not wrong hahaha

CNY DAY 2
Yesyes the origami skorts again because I think this goes the best with the white inverted crop top.
The top is over layered so when you bent down to take something or the wind blows, the top will be flipped open and TADA #bodyslip

Pair this up with a chunky gold necklace as it will look good with black and white as well.

Okay I am getting bored...
CNY DAY 3
OKAY I KNOW, I HAVE SAID THIS ON MY INSTAGRAM BUT I WANT TO STRESS ON THE FACT THAT I WASNT READY YET.

Very black, i know... Bad luck for CNY but who cares? I like it. The short dress or rather, the top I was wearing, is supposedly to be a short dress but it is really super short for me to handle because I will be very insecure about it so I decided to put on a pair of black leggings to match my outfit which turned out pretty well! I LOOK LIKE I HAVE GOT THE GODDESS LEGS. But in fact, no... Camera angle, ladies.

I pair it up with a pair of Stylenanda black low cut heels and a white quilted bag from Charles and Keith given by my dear boyf again.

P/S: the purple thing i was holding onto my right hand was my sister's phone...

CNY DAY 4
CNY DAY 4!!! WHICH MEANS SCHOOL IS STARTING TOMORROW (ON THAT DAY, ITS MONDAY THE NEXT DAY).

So in this ootd, I wore a just-nice long sleeve dress that has "words" and "phrases" all over it but I rolled up the sleeve as it is going to be damn hot if i don't.

The black leggings I am wearing is actually a different one from the one shown above, this is actually a laced black legging! The same pair of shoes and bag. Nothing really interesting because I am lazy.

---------------------
I have prepared this entry actually for a while now, like I was planning to upload it once Day 4 ends but who knows... I became really busy with school after that...
Project after project and test after test. This is driving me insane. From Monday till now, Wednesday, I have done 3 scenario type of homeworks that consist of about 10 questions each, 3 parts of a long-term project, presentation researches, 1 presentation and writing a 600 words entry for what I have learnt in a subject. Not forgetting about the daily lessons from 9am to 5pm. Ugh.

"Poly was fun" they said.
---------------------
Update about the BOYFRIEND TAG

To be extremely sorry that we will NOT be doing the tag anymore because well, we have tried for a day and we just can't bring ourselves to do it. SO WE ARE SORRY WE CANT DO THAT.

However, you guys can ask me things about my boyf and myself via askfm with the question you want to ask and maybe #blogpostASK then maybe some other day, we will answer all the questions you guys have for us on this blog? :')))

Alright sayonara, got to go now to catch up some dramas and then prepare for school tomorrow!

As always, thank you for reading. xx
